Dax’s Story
Gender: Male

FB Update Nov 26, 2025: \
Gorgeous Dax has been cleared by his vet, and is ready for adoption applications to go to a loving, forever home!! 💙🐾

Dax, a truly sweet and beautiful dog, captured the hearts of everyone at The Arrow Fund after months of terrible neglect left his front leg withering and atrophied. We said we would help him, and he had surgery to remove the leg and scapula.

In the meantime, Dax has healed wonderfully thanks to the AMAZING care of his Arrow Fund fosters, and is now ready to meet his loving forever person or family!
“For nearly three weeks, Dax has been part of our lives, and every single day he has touched my heart. He is pure love. His greatest joy is simply being close to his people. He greets everyone with warmth and has faced his recovery with a grace that is nothing short of inspiring,” said his Arrow Fund foster Rachael.

“Dax is still young, and you can feel his longing for the day when this chapter is behind him—the day he can run free, explore, and live the life every dog deserves. His resilience through major surgery and a long, challenging recovery speaks volumes about his spirit. From wound care to vet visits and from wearing his surgery suit to enduring the cone, he has handled it all with patience and trust,” Rachael said.

She said what matters most to Dax is receiving and giving love. He is happy, healthy, funny, and endlessly sweet. He melts hearts with his gentle nature and goofy charm. He’s crate-trained, and house-trained, giving him the perfect foundation to settle into his forever home.

“Dax isn’t just a dog; he’s a reminder of strength, hope, and unconditional love. Whoever welcomes him into their family will gain a loyal companion and a soul full of joy,” Rachael mused.

URGENT INTAKE: Emaciated young hound mix suffering from blunt force trauma to a front limb found as a stray out of Johnson County (Eastern Kentucky).
The Arrow Fund was contacted as his last hope, and we said YES, this sweet boy has an Arrow Fund family who will help him!

Please send your love and healing thoughts to this sweet, affectionate young dog we named Dax.

He was so weak from starvation and pain when he was rescued that he had to be carried to safety.

Dax was transported to Louisville and evaluated by Dr. Chris at Dogwood Veterinary Clinic, where it was determined that his injury was weeks old and had been most likely caused by blunt force trauma and an older bone break that points to former abuse.

Dax’s withered limb could not be saved, and needed to be amputated to give this boy the best possible new life without pain as a beloved pet.

Because he had not been able to use the withered leg for weeks, Dax had been ambling around as a tri-pod. Dr. Chris said the mobility transition after his amputation should be very manageable for this young, beautiful dog.

Today, we are happy to tell you that his appetite is good, his demeanor is affectionate, and he loves to give his Arrow Fund foster lots of kisses in gratitude for caring about him—maybe the first real love and care he’s ever gotten in his young life.

You and your generosity made that possible. Every innocent life of an animal victim that we help save is made possible because of your support. ❤️
