David
David’s Intake Post on Facebook:
At less than one year old, he had been turned out to die on the streets. His injuries, some recent and some old, revealed that he had been hit at least twice by vehicles; hit hard enough to fracture his pelvis in multiple places and separate his tail bone from his body.
He had shivered alone and starved in the cold for so long that his ribs and hip bones grew pointy and visible. He huddled against a chain link fence, unable to move much with a broken pelvis and unable to find shelter.
Had he given up hope that any human would help him? We don’t know, but we do know he accepted help gratefully when a staff member from Louisville Metro Animal Services stopped to find him lying on the hard scrabble and pavement.
He had starved long enough that X-rays revealed he had eaten plastic in a desperate attempt to put anything into his gnawing, empty belly. Dogs that are rescued before they starve to death have often eaten foreign objects in an attempt to consume anything at all.
This time, fate or divine intervention meant kind humans DID find him before he met an awful end. Animal advocates reached out to The Arrow Fund in hopes that this boy, down to skin and fractured bones, could really be saved.
We said YES, and an Arrow Fund foster’s sweet child asked to name the dog David. Now this previously abandoned boy has a real name and a real family—The Arrow Fund family.
When we rescued David, we promised him that he would never again be all alone, freezing, in agonizing pain, or desperate for a meal. We promised David he would get the care he needed to recover, to live a healthy life, and to love again.
Our friends at Dogwood Veterinary Clinic evaluated this gentle boy, and although his rear leg could not be saved, David will now be on the path to healing and a bright, beautiful life. He will continue to gain weight slowly and at a healthy pace, and will be given the best and most loving care by an Arrow Fund foster named Kelly.
Once he has healed, we also promised David we would find a wonderful family to love him for the rest of his life. Please help us love him back to good health.
