Update – Abe
Surgery was performed by Dr.Josh Bruce to reconstruct Abe ‘s mouth . Abe was receiving 24 hour care until he was well enough for surgery . He is also able to walk around and has proven to be a very special, sweet boy . We love him !
It is our hope to get Abe in to his foster home this week . We really are in need of foster homes . If we have no approved foster homes , we many times are unable to bring in new animals to our program . Not having a facility of our own , we rely heavily on our magnificent foster homes . Please consider being a part of our foster family .
Update – Abe
Lab with horrid mouth wound and various other wounds on body . Abe was lame upon arrival.
Sadly Abe is heart worm positive. He is able to walk now , but is still somewhat sore from injuries. Abe was sedated and his wounds were clipped and cleaned. Surgery on his mouth will be in his future but first we need to get him stabilized. He will be reevaluated on Monday by the surgeon and he will also see the dermatologist.
Abe is a very sweet boy that really loves companionship. It is our guess that Abe has had a very rough life thus far . We are so thankful that we will be able to make him feel better . He has already started the Doxycycline to start the long process of heart worm treatment. Abe is currently on IV pain meds , antibiotics, and fluids .
Male black Lab with horrendous wounds on body , especially in the mouth region .
We are unsure what has happened to this boy . He is from Suwannee County , Florida. He was found collapsed on the road, wet and hurt . Holli Miller transported as far as Atlanta, Georgia . Thanks to Jill McCormick who drove from Louisville to Atlanta and then back to Louisville . She was on the road for more than 19 hours ! These transporters are so amazing !
Abe is now at Blue Pearl . He is barely able to walk or stand . His mouth , as you can see , is very serious. He will be sedated to thoroughly clean the wounds . Abe has many wounds on his body . Some are newer wounds and some are scars . His left ear is also extremely swollen. The surgeon will assess his condition and decide what course of action we will take . For tonight Abe will be on IV fluids , pain medication, and antibiotics. He will be monitored 24 hours a day .
