Update – Haven
When admitted to Blue Pearl we were reassured by several Board Certified Specialists and Veterinary Emergency Doctors that this girl needed 24 Veterinary care. These extreme cases of emaciation can be very critical. Haven is a precious
Boxer that was chained and left behind after her owner moved. Haven came to us suffering from severe emaciation (body scale 1), parasites internal, flea infestation, ear infection, and anemia. We determined through an ultrasound that she had fluid in her belly, and she also had a high liver count.
We are pleased to announce that Haven is improving each day. The fluid in her belly is beginning to dissipate. Her PCV levels are starting to rise slowly as well. Her food has been increased each day slowly. Her energy level is starting to increase.
New Case – Haven
Boxer chained and left behind after owner moved . Haven is suffering from severe emaciation ( body scale 1 ), parasites internal , flea infestation, ear infection, anemia , and fluid in her belly .
A criminal complaint has been filed in Lawrence County , Kentucky . Our thanks to County Attorney- Mike Hogan and the staff and volunteers at the Lawrence County , Ky shelter . After seeing the severity of this case Almost Home Shelter Rescue quickly pulled her and then turned to The Arrow Fund for help due to the seriousness of her condition and the need for 24 hour care that she required . Thanks to Allie and Tammy Noble of Almost Home for their assistance.
Pilots Dr. Jeff Allen , Valerie Allen , and Mark Powers quickly took to the skies to fly to Lawrence County to retrieve this little girl . Once landing in Louisville, she was whisked off to Blue Pearl Specialty Hospital where she is being monitored constantly.
Haven’s PCV levels ( packed cell volume ) have gone from 24 and are now 23 . The number where we start to consider a transfusion is 20 . So with this anemia she is being watched closely. Her liver enzymes are high and after an ultrasound we discovered that she has some fluid in her belly . It is imperative that Haven is fed several very small meals a day to reintroduce her body to food . She did thankfully test negative for heart worms. An extensive tick panel was done and is still pending .
Can you imagine this girl with that big chain being left behind with no food alone and starving like that ? The Arrow Fund will assist in anyway that we can to provide medical documents , if needed for prosecution.
